UC Hosts Justice Studies Career Day for High School Students

Philo, Hyman to Lead Interactive Sessions

Utica, NY (11/04/2013) - On Wednesday, Nov. 13, Utica College will host its second annual Criminal Justice and Economic Crime Investigation Career Day, a free educational program for college-bound high school students interested in criminal justice or economic crime careers.

Students will have the opportunity to learn about careers and internships in the criminal justice and economic crime field. New Hartford Police Sergeant Robert Philo and Assistant District Attorney Bernard L. Hyman will lead interactive close-up sessions for the students. “Crime Scene Mapping Forensics,” led by Philo, will allow students to create and keep a map of a crime scene and “Grand Theft, Caught Stealing,” taught by Hyman, will demonstrate the sophisticated technology and software used to catch thieves. 

The event will take place at the Economic Crime and Justice Studies building on the UC campus. Utica College is also home to the Economic Crime Institute, the Northeast Cyber Forensic Center, and the Center for Identity Management and Information Protection (CIMIP), which has garnered national attention for its landmark study of perpetrators of ID theft.
