Themed Housing at Utica University

Utica University offers an exciting and unique experience for first-year students! Pioneer Pathways are themed opportunities designed to bring students, faculty, and staff together to develop a strong sense of community within the residence halls.  Pioneer Pathways are exclusively for first-year and transfer students. These include Major Based Communities and Special Interest Communities!

Major- Based Opportunities will connect students to other students in their courses and to faculty and staff that can help them be academically successful and career ready. These opportunities will include specific information pertaining to their degree path, study sessions for common courses, and events to help students explore career options to improve affinity to their majors and the institution.

Past Major-Based Opportunities have included: Biology, Criminal Justice & Cybersecurity, Health Studies, and Education.

Special-Interest Opportunities are designed for students who share a specific interest. These common interests will help students connect with other students and faculty and staff to build affinity to Utica College and the greater Utica Community.

Past Special-Interest Communities have included: Diversity & Inclusion, Leadership, Wellness, Honors, and First-Generation Students.

The Office of Student Living and Campus Engagement offers a few special interest housing opportunities for current students.  More information on how to apply is provided during housing selection for the upcoming year but our special interest housing options include:

Global Village

Utica University is proud to offer students a globalized living experience within the Global Village. Tower Hall, a cluster-style residence hall, is home to the Global Village and is composed of students from across the globe that interact together to have a multicultural living experience. These students select to live within the Global Village because they want to connect with students from other backgrounds, cultures, and viewpoints. This community focuses on acceptance, appreciation, and awareness of international affairs.

Honors Housing

Students who are a part of the Honors Program have the option to live in Boehlert Hall. These students must fill up the suite and have at least 3 honors students in the suite.

All-Gender Housing

All-Gender Housing is designed for students who may want to live with someone regardless of their gender, gender identity, or gender expression. In this community, legal sex is not a determining factor for assignment.

Utica University reserves the right, in its sole discretion and at any time, to designate any or all student housing as available for expanded occupancy up to three students per bedroom.  Students placed in a three-person occupancy room in North or South will receive a prorated price, as determined by Utica University. This prorated price will go into effect after Fall Break in October and will be retroactive to the beginning of the academic year.  Students who are de-tripled and in a double occupancy room prior to or during the academic year will then be charged the standard double housing rate effective the date of their new housing assignment.

Here is some information in regards to triple assignments

  • The number of rooms tripled is based on housing availability.  Students that are placed in triples is based on the date that you submit their housing deposit, their housing agreement, their housing preference room/
  • The Assistant Director for Student Living will de-triple rooms as a spaces become available and will continue to do so until all tripled students have been offered the opportunity to de-triple.  This is based on the date in which students pay their housing deposit.
  • The Assistant Director for Student Living will try their best to keep students in the same residence hall they are originally assigned to based on available spaces.
  • After fall break, any students still remaining in a triple space will be issued a reduced housing rate that is retroactive to the beginning of the academic semester.  This reduced rate is approximately $600 per semester.

The Office of Learning Services is responsible for evaluating whether to grant or deny requests for a medical accommodation. For more information, please contact the Office of Learning Services at (315)792-3032 or visit www.utica.edu/learning. Students will receive specific information in regards to deadlines for working through the medical accommodation process.
