UC Undergrads, Grads to Enjoy Separate Commencement Ceremonies

Plans Finalized for Ceremonies

Utica, NY (04/23/2012) - Utica College has finalized plans to have two separate commencement ceremonies for undergraduate and graduate students.

The undergraduate ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 13, at 9:30 a.m. at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.

Transportation from the UC campus to the Auditorium will be provided via bus for students, faculty, platform party and guests.

This ceremony is followed by the college’s traditional on-campus reception. Food will be provided for the platform party and faculty and staff who attend both undergraduate and graduate ceremonies. Buses will again provide transportation from the Auditorium to the campus.

The graduate ceremony will begin at 2:30 p.m. at The Stanley Theater. Buses to take graduate students, faculty and platform party guests to the ceremony will depart from campus beginning at 1 p.m.

Following the ceremony, there will be a reception at the Stanley. Buses will transport everyone back to the campus upon its conclusion. Buses will also be available to take attendees back to UC who do not wish to attend the reception.

The need for two separate commencement ceremonies was sparked by the college’s ability to graduate more students as a result of the tremendous growth in enrollment in both undergraduate and graduate programs. More than 300 undergraduate and graduate students are expected to attend their respective ceremonies.

“With more students enrolling in both undergraduate and graduate programs, this change became necessary in order to accommodate our graduates,” said Dominic Passalacqua, college registrar. “This is a sign of the college progressing.”
