SHINE Hosts Refugee Health Fair at Utica College
250 Refugees to Attend

Utica, NY (04/12/2011) - The Utica College chapter of Students Helping in the Naturalization of Elders (SHINE) will host a health fair Wednesday, April 14, for nearly 250 refugees from the English Language Program at the Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees.The group will come to campus to listen to presentations by UC students on a variety of health care topics. These topics will range from the importance of immunizations to staying more active; information on how to access services will also be available. The event will take place on the first floor of Hubbard Hall and the Faculty Center from 12:30 to 2:20 p.m.
SHINE is a national service-learning initiative currently existing at 19 colleges and universities in 9 cities across the U.S. It builds partnerships among colleges, universities and community-based organizations by linking college students with older refugees and immigrants (50 and older) seeking to learn English and navigate the complex path to U.S. citizenship.
