Utica, NY (09/03/2009) - Dr. Gordon Bashant, a 1955 alumnus of Utica College, will return to UC with an exhibit of his paintings. “Whimsicolor” will be exhibited Sept. 4 to 26 in the Edith Langley Barrett Fine Art Gallery.

Bashant will attend the “Meet the Artist” reception in the Library Concourse and Gallery on Monday, Sept. 7 from 3 to 6 p.m. He is also scheduled to attend on Saturday, Sept. 12 from 10:30 a.m. until noon as part of UC’s 2009 Homecoming weekend. Bashant is also one of the watercolor artists who will provide instructional demos as part of the Central N.Y. Watercolor Society’s Annual Demo Night, which will take place in the Library Concourse Sept. 18. Bashant’s paintings, which are mostly watercolors with rich colors and playful images, are sold internationally.

Bashant graduated with a bachelor’s degree in combined science from Utica College and earned his M.D., C.M. at McGill University in Canada in 1959. Always interested in the arts, Bashant started painting with lessons at Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute. His work has since won many awards and was featured in a booth at the Superbowl in 2003.

A retired surgeon with the Slocum-Dickson Medical Group and originally from Utica, Bashant splits his time between the Adirondacks and the West Coast.

The gallery, which is located adjacent to the Library Concourse, is open Monday through Friday from 1 to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. For more information, visit www.utica.edu/gallery.
