Utica, NY (10/02/2007) -    Utica College and The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties, Inc., are partnering to help nonprofit charitable organizations figure out and file Form 990.

The “Special Topics Seminar: Form 990” will be held Oct. 11 at the Radisson Hotel on Genesee Street in Utica from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This form, which nonprofit organizations must file with the IRS annually, is more than just a tax filing; it supplies operational information that is widely available to the public, including what nonprofits do and how well they have performed.

The morning session will focus on understanding the Form 990, including what information must be disclosed, public relations challenges, and IRS field audits. The afternoon session focuses on preparing the form, including common errors, how to report fundraising activities, recordkeeping and preparation shortcuts, and more.

Eve Borenstein, author and instructor of “Exempt Organization Taxation: Planning Primer for Form 990,” will be the seminar facilitator. Borenstein is an active member of the American Bar Association’s Tax Section Committee on Exempt Organizations and is a practicing attorney with Borenstein and McVeigh Law Office, LLC, in Minneapolis. Borenstein has instructed her seminar in 14 different states over the past 16 years.

Participants are welcome to attend either the morning or afternoon sessions individually or the entire full day seminar. The morning session is $60, the afternoon session is $110 and the full day seminar fee is $150.

Participants who attend the full day seminar are eligible for seven Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits for accountants.
