Utica, NY (03/19/2007) - The public is invited to learn about the fascinating relationship between art and science – and how the two disciplines intersect in the field of forensics. Daniel Marion Jr., forensic artist, sculptor, painter and secondary art teacher from Denver, CO, will visit Utica College March 22 (Thursday).

Marion will share his research and experiences in forensic craniofacial reconstruction science, the arts and education.

His presentation, “The Symbiotic Relationship Between the Art of Drawing, Sculpting and the Science of Physical Anthropology in Forensic Craniofacial Reconstruction,” will take place at 1 p.m. in the Willard Conference Room, DePerno Hall. The program is free and open to the public.

Pamela Thompson, assistant professor of education at UC, said, “Mr. Marion is presently exploring the connections between science, aesthetics and what ‘we inherently know’- our tacit knowledge -- in an effort to design a cross-disciplinary model for educational practice in our contemporary society.”

Currently a doctoral student at the University of Denver, Marion earned a master’s degree in sculpture and drawing from Adams State College, Alamosa, Colo., and a master of fine arts in drawing from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. He is a freelance forensic artist, public school art teacher, a member of Project EDAN (Everyone Deserves A Name) and a certified forensic artist for the International Association for Identification.

The presentation is part of the college’s year-long campus theme, “Science and Society.”
