At 7:00 pm on Thursday, March 6, 2014, Professor Adele Mercier, Queen's University, gave a public lecture titled "Same-sex Marriage: Why it is a Requirement of Reason in a Secular Society". The talk was hosted in the ECJS Carbone Auditorium on Utica College's campus at 1600 Burrstone Rd., Utica, NY.

Professor Mercier reviewed various arguments against same-sex marriage as they were presented in Canadian Courts and showed how every one of them resorted to one of two kinds of fallacious reasoning: Definitional Preclusion and the Naturalist Fallacy. The talk then addressed positively the ethical and legal constraints on reasoning correctly about same-sex marriage.
