"Can We Talk?"

At 6:00 pm on Thursday, October 4, 2018, Professor C. Tabor Fisher gave a public lecture titled "Can We Talk?". The talk was hosted hosted in Carbone  Auditorium on Utica College's campus at 1600 Burrstone Rd., Utica, NY.

Professor Fisher observed how our world has become more polarized than ever and much "discussion" of sensitive issues has devolved to mud-slinging from within the safety of our social media "bubbles." In this talk, she developed an understanding of social location and identity, based on feminist geographer Doreen Massey's conception of space-time that avoids the Balkanization and fragmentation that can result from a simple identity politics. Instead, this conception provides a new and more productive ground for difficult conversations.
