Utica University Alum, James McClendon (Journalism,’17), is a finalist for a Syracuse Press Club Award in the Best Spot News category for his work on the Syracuse.comstory Tornado tears through Rome.
While attending Utica University, then Utica College, McClendon was a Writer and Editor-In-Chief for The Tangerine. Since graduating from Utica, he has worked as a Sports Editor and Sports Reporter for the Utica Observer Dispatch and a Digital Managing Editor for Townsquare Media Buffalo. He is now at Syracuse.com where he has been a Breaking News Reporter and a Sports Editor. Presently, he's a Managing Producer. McClendon shares this nomination with Glenn Coin, Rylee Kirk, Jon Moss and N. Scott Trimble.
The Syracuse Press Club will announce which finalists placed first, second or received an honorable mention, during its Professional Recognition Awards Dinner on Saturday, May 3, 2025.
Syracuse Press Club Awards are open to journalists working in and/or published within the following 21 counties of New York State: Onondaga, Madison, Cortland, Cayuga, Oswego, Jefferson, St. Lawrence, Lewis, Herkimer, Oneida, Otsego, Delaware, Chenango, Broome, Tompkins and Seneca; and as far west as State Route 14 in Tioga, Chemung, Wayne, Schuyler and Yates counties.
