UC Theatre Production - Songs - August 2019

Fundraiser for Levering Memorial Fund

This weekend, Utica College Theatre, in collaboration with Wilde Rep Theatre, will put on a musical, “Songs for A New World.”

The performances will benefit a scholarship fund in memory of beloved associate professor of theatre Marijean Levering.

With incredible performers, powerful music, soul gripping harmonies and a message that can be used by all, “Songs For A New World” is a concept musical about that pivotal moment in life when the world changes. This musical will be performed August 8, 9 and 10 at 7:30 p.m. and August 11 at 2 p.m. in Strebel Auditorium in Strebel Student Center at Utica College.

“If successful, this collaborative effort between Utica College Theatre and Wilde Rep Theatre could complete the Levering Memorial Fund endowment and ensure an annual award is available for theatre students at Utica College,” said Laura Salvaggio, assistant professor of theatre and chair of performing and fine arts.

“As the former chair of Performing and Fine Arts, Marijean loved giving out awards for students in arts programs,” said Salvaggio, “She would be absolutely thrilled to have an award in her memory. Her passing from cancer two summers ago was a world-changing moment for many at Utica College, so it's incredibly appropriate that this performance is the way the theatre will reach this goal.”

Sunday's matinee performance will omit the handful of swear words in the show and be more friendly to the more outspoken ways in which younger audience members tend to enjoy shows, Salvaggio said.

Tickets are $20 for general admission, $10 for students, and will be available at the door. Doors open at 7 p.m. with open seating.
