Scholarship Opportunities

At Scholars Day, interviews will be conducted for several full tuition scholarships and major-related tuition awards. The scholarships:

  • cover tuition (not room and board) for four years*
  • require the recipient to maintain a 3.0 or higher GPA each year

These awards include:

  • Three (3) full-tuition scholarships - a scholarship for one student in each of Utica University's three schools:
    • School of Arts and Sciences
    • School of Business and Justice Studies
    • School of Health Professions and Education
  • Four (4) $5,000 program-specific scholarships

Writing Sample

Interview committees will be given a copy of your high school transcript as well as a sample of your writing. All Scholars Day participants are required to write an essay of approximately 300 words in length on this topic:

Utica University recognizes that diversity extends beyond personal identity and encompasses the entirety of an individual’s experiences. Based on your own experiences, how will you contribute to Utica's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion?

You may submit your essay when you register, or after registration via your application portal. The deadline to submit your essay is Monday, February 5th at 12:00 pm EST.

How the Interview Process Works

A small committee of respected members of faculty and campus staff will conduct the interview, which will last approximately twenty minutes.  Parents may not be present during the interview via Zoom.

How to Dress

Attire for the interview is business casual.  The idea is to look your age while looking polished and sharp. Men don’t need to wear ties; khakis and a collared shirt or polo will suffice.

Some Tips for a Successful Interview

  • Be prepared to answer questions about your academic and career goals, leadership roles and personal values.
  • Do some research about the mission of Utica University.
  • Please be punctual.
  • Speak in a clear voice.
  • Be yourself!  We want you to answer all the questions honestly, so just relax and be you!  This is the time to emphasize your accomplishments.
  • Don’t chew gum, bite your nails, fidget, yawn, slouch, tap your foot/hand/knee, etc.
  • Don’t assume the interviewers know all about you. Please take this opportunity to share detailed information about yourself.

* Please note: The combined total of the Presidential Scholarship, Utica University Scholarship, New York State Tuition Assistance, and New York State Enhanced Tuition payments cannot exceed the cost of tuition for the award year.  If you have received any external scholarships from organizations outside of Utica University, you will be able to use those scholarships for any educational expenses as defined by the terms and conditions of that specific award.  Presidential Scholarships are renewed for 4 years as long as the recipient maintains a 3.0 GPA.
