Student Achievements
Dear Students and Colleagues,
We have only the best kind of news to celebrate this week – namely, the remarkable work and achievements of our students. And oh, what a week it was!
Let’s start with our men’s hockey team. On Saturday, they competed in the NCAA tournament for the fourth consecutive season. While the outcome wasn’t what we wanted, the team should be proud of this remarkable run of success.
The ice wasn’t the only place where we saw our students competing on the national stage. Members of our graduating Construction Management class were recognized last week at the Mechanical Contractors Association of America Annual Convention in Phoenix, Arizona, placing fifth out of twenty-nine colleges and universities across the United States and Canada in the MCAA Student Chapter Competition.
On to the arts. Our Performing and Fine Arts Department staged five unbelievable performances of the musical Godspell, continuing what has been one of the most accomplished and memorable seasons of theatre in the University’s history. Many thanks to the cast for giving me the opportunity to play Lazarus in the Saturday matinee performance.
Not to be outdone, six Chemistry students – Brayden Miller, Katie Mattes, Xavier Moore, Nathan Sands, Nevaeh Scott-Dominguez, and Yamilet Taveras – headed off to Atlanta on Saturday where they will present their research at the American Chemical Society Spring Meeting this week.
Last, but clearly not least, Pioneer gymnasts Alisya Dorman, Alyssa Langston, and Grace Marra competed Sunday at the NCGA National Championships. Think of that – Utica just launched our Gymnastics team in 2024 and we already have athletes competing for national titles. Quite an accomplishment for such a young program.
All of this and more – in just one week! Multiply this impressive roster of achievements by the thirty-two weeks in our academic year, and you begin to get a sense of the sheer magnitude of high-quality work being done at this institution. Across the full spectrum of activities, both in and out of the classroom, Utica University is punching above its weight on the national stage thanks to the determined efforts of our amazing students and their faculty and staff mentors.
In the weeks ahead, look for more student research being presented at regional and national conferences, more publications, more bids for individual and team championships, another theatrical performance, more achievements in a diversity of disciplines, and more opportunities to be immensely proud that you’re a Pioneer.
Sincerely,
Stephanie Nesbitt
