PioTalk opens conversation about sexual assault, violence, and building safer communities

Through education, awareness, and open dialogue, the hope is to continue building a safer and more supportive campus community.
On October 8, Utica University hosted a PioTalk discussion titled “The Cornell Case and the National Conversation on Sexual Violence” at the Strebel Student Center.
The discussion was facilitated by Kira Maddox, Director of the Office of Community, Belonging, Engagement & Title VI; Alicia Reed, Director of Victim Advocacy & Violence Prevention; and Kyle Wilson, Title IX Coordinator.
Together, they led an important conversation using the current news and events as a starting point to explore broader topics about sexual violence, consent, recognizing sexual assault, and the resources available to support survivors. The YWCA Mohawk Valley was also present to share information and additional support resources.
Through education, awareness, and open dialogue, the hope is to continue building a safer and more supportive campus community.
While not a formal training, presentation, or workshop, PioTalk is intended to be an open, community-centered conversation where participants can ask questions, share perspectives, learn about available resources, and engage in dialogue with campus experts and one another. PioTalks are very fluid in structure and are often guided by those in attendance.
