Biology students Adam Thomas and Dominic Clark present their research at a conference
Dr. Sara Scanga (Biology Department) accompanied 2 research students, Adam Thomas and Dom Clark, to the Northeast Natural History Conference in Albany, NY last month. Adam and Dom presented a poster sharing the results of a research project they conducted last fall with 4 other Biology Department majors (Nathan Rice, Brianna Santos, Peyton Walker, and Chanel Chahfe) under the mentorship of Dr. Scanga and Dr. Tim McCay (Colgate University).
The poster, entitled "Fishing activity has minor effects on earthworm communities adjacent to Central New York freshwater habitats", shared their finding that fishing may contribute to the spread of certain non-native earthworms--those that are used for bait. So if you go fishing with bait worms this summer, please don't dispose of any extra worms in natural areas!
Kudos to the student authors for all their hard work!
