Communication and Media major and Tangerine Editor-in-Chief, Mickale Thompson '24, received First Place in the Best Sports Print/Digital Story category from the Syracuse Press Club for his article "'We're certainly very white': Inside the lack of diversity in Utica University's athletic programs." Thomspon also won an Honorable Mention in the Best News Print/Digital Story category for his story "AAUP-Utica files discriminatory lawsuit against Utica University."
The Fall 2023 Multimedia Web Design class won First Place in the Best Use of Multimedia category for the Utica Parks and You Multimedia Project. The course was taught by Mary Christopher, Director of Tangerine Operations.
The Tangerine and Communication and Media students have won ten Syracuse Press Club Awards in the past five years.
The Syracuse Press Club was founded in 1951. Its members are journalists, educators, students and communications professionals working in local Central New York print, radio, television and digital media. Committed to recognizing and celebrating quality journalism in the community and helping their members to learn from one another through networking and professional developments, the organization also aims to lend a hand to the next generation of Syracuse journalists through their Devesty-Williams Scholarship and the Syracuse Journalism Lab.
