Exterior of Utica City Hall

The walk will take place on Thursday, April 21 and is scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., with speakers at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.

The half-mile walk from the Mohawk Valley Community Action Agency to Utica City Hall will not only bring awareness to social justice, but also commemorate a similar downtown march that was spearheaded by Utica University students nearly 31 years ago.

This unity march aims to give voice to the voiceless and will bring both the university and the city together in hopes of combating issues of social justice in the Utica area.

The walk will take place on Thursday, April 21 and is scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., with speakers at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.

Utica University President Laura Casamento, DEI Vice President Anthony Baird and Associate Professor of History Clemmie Harris will speak at the event. Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri will also speak, along with many other community, university and college leaders.

The original event more than years ago was a candlelight vigil in response to racist hate letters spread across campus. Through the culmination of events and campus activities over the past 30 years, Utica is looking to bring both the university and city together once again to commemorate the progress made and acknowledge work to be done.
