Utica University will honor some 550 graduates with undergraduate Commencement ceremonies on Thursday, May 12 at 5 p.m. in the Adirondack Bank Center at Utica Memorial Auditorium.

Justice Janet Malone, a 1986 graduate of Utica University, will be the keynote speaker. Justice Malone is the first Black woman to serve on the Supreme Court in the Ninth Judicial District of New York.

Utica will honor two valedictorians this year; Carissa Jade Andrews and Anna N. Jordan have both earned perfect 4.0 grade point averages. Andrews, a Rome, NY native and graduate of Notre Dame Junior-Senior High School, will pursue a master’s degree in special education at Utica. Jordan, a native of Candor, NY, who was homeschooled, will work toward her master’s degree in occupational therapy at Utica.

Two bachelor’s degrees will be awarded posthumously; one to Alyssa Cheyenne Parrino, psychology-child life, and one to John Paul Ramel, construction management.

In addition, Utica University is proud to join a contingent of higher education institutions in conferring an honorary degree upon Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine.

The ceremony for those earning certificates, masters and doctoral degrees will be held Friday, May 13, at 4 p.m. at the Adirondack Bank Center at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. Giving the keynote address will be Eric Stewart, who earned both a master’s and doctorate in physical therapy from Utica University. Stewart is an assistant professor of instruction at the University of Delaware, coordinator of inpatient clinical education experiences, and faculty within the Johns Hopkins Hospital – University of Delaware acute care residency.

Tickets are required to attend either ceremony.
