Are U.S health care institutions vulnerable to cyber attacks?

Leslie Corbo, assistant professor of cybersecurity at Utica College, has been published in the JAMA Network Open journal.

Corbo’s study questions if U.S health care institutions are susceptible to phishing attacks. The findings of this research showed that more than 2.9 million simulated emails were sent to employees at six different hospitals, with an average click rate of 16.7 percent. Repeated phishing campaigns were associated with decreased odds of clicking on a subsequent phishing email.

Corbo recently earned her doctorate from Capitol Technology University and teaches classes at Utica College in information security, cybersecurity concepts and cybercrime investigations. Her areas of research include behavior analysis, phishing emails and sentiment analysis. Before she came to Utica College, Corbo was a cybersecurity analyst and Information System security manager. As an IT-Security analyst, she conducted investigations, inspections and incident response.
