The Transitional B Apprenticeship Teacher Preparation Program is an accelerated certification pathway for individuals with a bachelor's degree in the subject they wish to teach to become full-time, transitionally certified teachers in less than a year. Students would then complete the remainder of their program while teaching.
The scholarship funding is available through a $1.2 million New York State Education Workforce Development Grant through the New York State Department of Labor. Utica University was one of a select number of institutions who received the award in 2024.
In addition to covering 100 percent of tuition and fees, scholarship awards includes a stipend. Scholarships are awarded through a competitive review process, and are limited to New York state residents. Preferred consideration will be given to qualified applicants who are interested in teaching within the Hamilton-Fulton-Montgomery BOCES District.
Certification subject areas include Special Education, Technology (Pre-K-Grade 12), Math, English, the sciences, Social Studies, and World Languages (Grades 7-12).
The deadline for scholarship applications is Nov. 1, but candidates are encouraged to apply for the program as soon as possible.
