A Letter from Mary Donofrio, Editor of Utica magazine

Like everything else these days, Utica magazine is changing.

Fall 2019 Utica
A vestige from a not-so-distant past: the fall 2019 issue of Utica magazine.

As I look back at my list of stories planned for the spring 2020 issue of Utica magazine, I can’t help but feel like I’m studying an artifact from a different life.

In the spring issue, set to hit mailboxes in May, we had plans to tell you stories of alumni succeeding in the business world, athletes poised to win a national championship, and students doing incredible work in the classrooms and labs on campus.

But for now, those plans will have to wait. It’s the refrain we’ve all grown used to hearing these past few weeks.

Instead, as the entire world is upended by the coronavirus pandemic, Utica is shifting both its format and its mission. Our spring print issue will come to you in the form of several email editions over the next few weeks, and our goal: to provide some insight, perspective and, most of all, hope during this unprecedented crisis. In the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing stories of Utica College students, faculty, alumni, and staff, and tell you how they’re getting through this uncertain time with the grace and resiliency and we’ve come to expect from Pioneers.

We also want to hear from you. Tell us YOUR stories and share how you’re coping with the disruption, disappointment, and uncertainty. Tell us about the alumni (we know there are many) on the front lines of this pandemic, using their UC educations to help so many others in desperate need. Email us at uticamag@utica.edu

For now, we hope these stories bring you some degree of comfort as we wade through this unfolding crisis day by day. If anything, I hope they’re a reminder that we’re all in this together.

Wishing you health and safety,

Mary Donofrio
Editor
