Please review the following registration guidelines to help us ensure there is enough space and resources for all participating school:

  • To Teachers:
    • Each school may register as many students as they would like, but only 10 students are guaranteed a spot. If your school wishes to register more than 10 students, any additional students will be placed on a waitlist. We’ll do our best to accommodate as many students as possible and will admit students from the waitlist if space becomes available. To identify the 10 students guaranteed a spot, please consider using students’ past performance in recent math courses and/or math competitions. Once identified, kindly submit these students’ names to Xiao Xiao at xixiao@utica.edu.

  • To Students/Contestants:
    • Please work with your school's teacher or AMC coordinator at your school to complete the registration process. If your school does not have a teacher or AMC coordinator organizing this event, you may register independently. In these cases, we will enroll the first 10 students from each school on a first-come, first-served basis.

Coverage:

The material covered on the AMC 8 includes topics from a typical middle school mathematics curriculum. Possible topics include but are not limited to: counting and probability, estimation, proportional reasoning, elementary geometry including the Pythagorean Theorem, spatial visualization, everyday applications, and reading and interpreting graphs and tables. In addition some of the later questions may involve linear or quadratic functions and equations, coordinate geometry, and other topics traditionally covered in a beginning algebra course.
