Mona Brody: Disquiet in a Time of Uncertainty

Disquiet in a Time of Uncertainty Mona Brody, NYC and Pratt Art Institute This body of work is a response to our time of uncertainty, an unraveling sense of a reality unfamiliar to me. No longer is a silence of whispers enough to protect and create a safe haven for humanity. The innocent of the world are forced to hide, driven underground, and unauthorized to breathe. The metaphoric possibilities that result from the collection and discovery of natural objects, the physical space of the canvas, and the interaction of materials reveal the strange and uncanny place within the familiar. - Mona Brody (2017) Opening Reception: Friday, January 26, 2018, 4:00–6:00 p.m. in the Gallery
2:15 p.m (refreshments), 2:30 p.m. (talk)
Geotalk or "heliotalk"? A presentation that will eclipse all others!

Lunar and solar eclipses are both infrequent celestial events which have elicited awe and excitement (and sometimes terror) for most Earthlings. In the summer of 2017, for the first time in a century, the solar eclipse path of totality crossed the entire continental United States and presented an opportunity for millions of Americans to witness this rare celestial event. This presentation will begin with a scientific explanation of how and when eclipses (and specifically solar eclipses) occur and will be followed-up with a description of a personal trek to Kentucky that one of the presenters took to witness the magic of "The Totality". About Geotalk All lectures are held in Willard Conference Room, DePerno Hall unless otherwise noted. Refreshments are served at 2:15 p.m.; lectures begin at 2:30 p.m. Call (315) 792-3059 for more information.
