Film Screening: "Utica: The Last Refuge"

"Imagine you are a refugee from Sudan. After 6 years in an Ethiopian camp, you arrive in cold Upstate NY. You know no one here."
Join the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Student Transitions for a screening of Utica: The Last Refuge.
Utica: The Last Refuge follows the Azein's, a refugee family of four from Sudan, from their arrival at the Syracuse International Airport in 2017 and watches them transition from isolation to members of a larger, thriving refugee community in Utica, New York. The documentary explores the current political unrest around refugees -- especially during 2017 -- local nationally renowned agencies helping in resettlement, and the impact on the local economy.
This film was produce by David Chanatry, Chair of the Public Relations and Journalism Program and Professor of Journalism at Utica University.
