Utica, NY (03/14/2006) - A group of Utica College students will stage a benefit performance of Eve Ensler’s Obie-award winning “The Vagina Monologues” on Friday, March 24 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, March 25 at 2 p.m.The performances will take place in the Strebel Auditorium at the college. Tickets are available the day of the performance for $5 each ($3 for students with a college ID).
Sponsored by the Utica College Womyn’s Resource Center as part of “Womyn’s Herstory Month,” this event is held in support of the international “V-Day: Until the Violence Stops” campaign. “V Day” is a global movement to stop violence against women and children. Based on interviews with 200 women, Ensler’s Vagina Monologues gives voice to the messages women receive about their bodies and sexuality, and tells the stories of women’s experiences with sexual and domestic violence. Annual benefit performances of the Vagina Monologues raise awareness and funds for local anti-violence groups within communities as well as to combat violence on an international scale.
Proceeds from the performance will be donated to the YWCA Domestic Violence and Sexual Violence services. For more information, contact Alane Varga, associate dean of students, at 792-3100 or avarga@utica.edu.
