UC Hosts National White Collar Crime Center Training

Utica, NY (03/19/2014) - Utica College is hosting a specialized training session this week for 30 local and national law enforcement professionals, delivered by the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C) through Friday.

Classes include “Cell Phone Call Detail Record Analysis” and “Plotting Movement from Data gathered from GPS Devices.”

“The training for both cell phone and GPS data analysis is very much in demand by law enforcement,” said Raymond Philo, professor of practice in criminal justice and director of UC’s Economic Crime Institute. “In fact, prospective registrants have been put on a waiting list because we are at maximum capacity.”

The Oneida County District Attorney's Office is the law enforcement sponsor for this training, Philo said.

The NW3C is a nonprofit organization that provides support for the prevention, investigation and prosecution of economic and high-tech crime through a combination of research, training and investigative support services. It has more than 4,000 member agencies in the U.S. as well as 15 other countries throughout the world.

Utica College is home to an internationally respected suite of economic crime, cybersecurity and justice studies programs, taught by a remarkably accomplished professional faculty, using the industry's most current tools and techniques. Students have access to advanced technologies available in the college's state-of-the-art Economic Crime, Justice Studies and Cybersecurity facility.

Utica College, which has been a pioneer in economic crime and cyber programs, is home to the Economic Crime Institute, the Northeast Cyber Forensic Center, and the Center for Identity Management and Information Protection (CIMIP), which has garnered national attention for its landmark study of perpetrators of ID theft.
