Distinguished Photographer LP Pacilio to Present Photo Exhibit in UC Gallery

Utica, NY (08/22/2012) - In any given moment, there are uncountable simultaneous events; all of them true and many of them beautiful. These constantly morphing moments are the basic material of L.P. Pacilio's photography. The recognition of the elegance and truth to be found in these slivers of seconds are the core issue.Pacilio’s love for photography began as a child with a small box-style "sun camera" and its very direct relationship with image creation. The magic of that first process is reflected in the light and life of Pacilio’s current use of digital cameras and printing techniques. This will be the first time Pacilio has used an entirely digital workflow and It is imperative to note that none of his images are digital manipulations. These are simple, unvarnished moments, not unlike those shot in earlier decades with Nikons and Leicas loaded with Tri-X film. Pacilio’s images are an embodiment of his remarkable talent as a photographer.
Pacilio began working as a photo journalist in 1972 as a still photographer for WGBH-TV in Boston. This initial professional experience provided him the opportunity to work in both daily deadline based photojournalism of local events in Boston and longer form documentary/reportage projects.
Pacilio’s talent soon came to a larger audience through exhibition and publication, He has worked on assignment for magazines such as Newsweek, the New York Times, Fortune, Paris Match, Réalité, Geo, and Der Speigel. His architectural photography, has been published in Architecture, Progressive Architecture, Architectural Digest, Historic Preservation and the AIA Journal.
Pacilio is not new to the exhibit scene. In fact, this will be his second show at UC, following his 2006 exhibit “Roadside Attractions.” His prints are also included in numerous public and private collections.
Pacilio serves as director of publications and photography at Utica College. His 2012 exhibit, Il Tempo a Roma è (The Time in Rome is), celebrates his work with Utica College, as well as four decades of work as a journalist, documentary, and architectural photographer.
Pacilio’s exhibit will take place Aug. 27 through Sept. 21 in the Edith Langley Barrett Fine Art Gallery, located in the lower level of the Library Concourse, at Utica College.
A reception will be held in the Library Concourse on Monday, Sept. 3 from 4 to 6:30 p.m., featuring musical guest Doc Woods.
