Utica, NY (08/22/2011) - America’s triple A credit rating is now a thing of the past. The recently roiled financial markets have investors spooked and the people with 401(k) retirement accounts holding their collective breath. So, what’s next? Answers to some of the most complicated questions about investment strategies will be addressed when financial expert Paul Bates speaks at the MBA residency at Utica College on Tuesday, Aug. 23 at 12 noon in the Carbone Family Auditorium in the Economic Crime, Justice Studies and Cybersecurity building.

Bates, the author of two best-selling books, will present “Evolving approaches to investor protection” at this conference.

Bates’ experience has spanned across all fields of academia, investment, capital markets regulation, corporate and not-for-profit governance, investment dealer and executive leadership, expert witness and international consulting in the financial services sector, compliance and product development. He currently serves as strategy advisor to the president at the DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. He served as dean of and Industry Professor in Financial Management Services at the DeGroote School of Business for nearly seven years. He has served as president at four major investment firms, most recently at Charles Schwab Canada.

Zhaodan Huang, director of the MBA program at UC, said that Bates’ speech would be beneficial for students and those looking for what they should do to protect themselves in these tough economic times. “For MBA students, it’s like a class,” Huang said. “For everyone else, his expertise in financial regulations can help them protect their investments.”
