Utica, NY (11/18/2010) - This fall, WPNR-FM successfully launched its Web stream and is now broadcasting live on the Internet. The station is no longer constricted by its 20-mile broadcast radius and listeners worldwide can tune in to WPNR 90.7 FM by going to www.utica.edu/wpnr907.

As part of the Web streaming component, listeners can rate songs and its Web streaming interface displays both currently playing and previously played songs. The launch of this live Web stream is part of an effort to encourage increased interaction among the station and Utica College students and alumni.

“With internet broadcasting, anyone can listen to WPNR from any computer with internet access,” said Doug Croft, station faculty advisor. “This will allow friends and family of students, as well as alumni outside of the Utica area, to tune in to the station.”

Web streaming is just one of several improvements WPNR-FM has recently made. Last year, Croft, with the help of the WPNR staff, brought in a new automation system that allows the station to broadcast more efficiently and more competitively with other stations in the area. The sports department has grown immensely over the past two years and new remote broadcasting equipment now allows sports staff members to broadcast live from Utica College sporting events. WPNR also began a rebranding campaign this summer to realign the station with Utica College. As part of that brand realignment, WPNR-FM created new logos and taglines, updated its Website and created social media profiles on Twitter, Facebook and Blogger, to increase communication with listeners, students and alumni. Now, with the addition of this online component, WPNR-FM hopes to further encourage this interaction.

All students are welcome to be a part of this on-campus, academic organization. Working at WPNR-FM provides great opportunities, like hosting a radio show, broadcasting from sporting events, and working in a fun, educational environment. WPNR-FM is currently accepting applications for volunteer DJs.

For more information about WPNR-FM’s live Web stream, employment opportunities or general station information, contact Doug Croft at dcroft@utica.edu.
