Utica, NY (10/04/2010) - The Professor Harry F. and Mary Ruth Jackson Lunch Hour Series at Utica College will feature three certified local musicians Wednesday (Oct. 6.) The Lavender Trio of Elizabeth Carville Evans, Judy Marchione and Heather Johnsen will entertain students and the public at 12:30 p.m. in the Library Concourse.

Evans, the flutist, graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston with a bachelor's degree in flute performance. An established performer, teacher, and active member of the B Sharp and Etude Music Clubs, Evans is a four-time winner of the Conservatory Gala Chamber Music Competition. She is known for solo and chamber recitals throughout the area, and has performed in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and Harvard's Sanders Theater, among others.

Marchione, the bassoonist, is a graduate of Eastman School of Music who earned a master's degree in music performance. She has performed over the years with orchestras such as the Buffalo Philharmonic, Akron Symphony, Canton Symphony, and Ohio Ballet. Previously, Marchione was a teaching assistant for K. David van Hoesen. She currently performs with the Utica Symphony, Catskill Symphony, and Binghamton Philharmonic.

Johnsen, the clarinetist, earned a master's degree in music from the Cleveland Institute. She performed at Goldovsky Opera Company, was principal clarinetist and soloist with the American Wind Symphony and was a member of the Buffalo Creative Associates. She also performed at Carnegie Recital Hall and recorded with the Schoenberg Woodwind Quintet. Johnsen was formerly on the faculty and woodwind quintet at SUNY Fredonia and is currently the principal clarinetist in the Utica Symphony.

The Jackson Lunch Hour Series, instituted in 1979, presents a series of musical and literary programs each semester. All performances are free of charge and are open to students, faculty, staff, and the public. Sponsored by the Utica College Social Cultural Committee, programs begin at 12:30 p.m. and are held in the Library Concourse (musical performances) or in Macfarlane Auditorium, Deperno Hall (literary readings).

Literary programs are made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, a State Agency.
