Raymond Simon Institute Presents Scholarships, Awards

Public relations and journalism students lauded for achievements

Utica, NY (06/24/2010) - Outstanding public relations and journalism students were honored at the annual Raymond Simon Institute (RSI) for Public Relations awards ceremony at Utica College.

Simon, his family, RSI board members, faculty, students and their families, and many special guests attended.

The following awards were presented:
• RSI/Faculty Award - Katie Prue (New Hartford, N.Y.)
• Owen Comora/RSI Tangerine Award - Katie Gleitsmann (Utica, N.Y.), Amelia Rawlins (Brooklyn, N.Y.)
• Mildred T. Santora Memorial Scholarship - Anthony J. O’Hagan (Bronx, N.Y.)
• Eleanor and Matty Sokolow/RSI Writing Award - Maria Dischiavo (Stittville, N.Y.), Miranda McKee (Glenfield, N.Y.), Kristin Smith (Waterloo, N.Y.)

• Outstanding PR/J Alumna - Salina Lebris ’80 (White Plains, N.Y.)

Simon is considered to be one of the founding fathers of public relations education and is widely regarded as a teaching legend. He is the former head of the Utica College public relations degree program; the Raymond Simon Institute for Public Relations was founded in his honor in 1986. The institute was created to enhance UC’s public relations and journalism programs. Outstanding alumni and students are honored each spring at the annual PR/J awards brunch.

About Utica College – Utica College, founded in 1946, is a comprehensive private institution offering bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. The College, located in upstate central New York, approximately 90 miles west of Albany and 50 miles east of Syracuse, currently enrolls over 3,200 students in 37 undergraduate majors, 27 minors, 21 master’s and two doctoral degree programs.
