DA Candidates to Debate at UC


James Sherman Political Science Society Sponsors Event

The Sherman Society will host a debate Tuesday between the two candidates for Oneida County district attorney.

Utica, NY (10/04/2007) -    Utica College’s James Sherman Political Science Society will sponsor a debate next Tuesday (Oct. 9) between two candidates for Oneida County district attorney.

   The debate participants will be Democratic candidate and current Oneida County District Attorney Scott McNamara, and Republican candidate David Longeretta, a civil/criminal defense attorney and lifelong resident of Oneida County.

   The event will be held in UC’s Strebel Auditorium from 4 to 6 p.m. It is free and open to the public. During the debate, the candidates will tackle questions from students regarding issues such as public safety, crimes committed in cyberspace, and their visions of the future of the District Attorney’s office in Oneida County. The candidates will also address policy questions submitted by the public.

   The James Sherman Society is an academic society that aims to help prepare students for careers or professional schools, and acts as an advisory group to the government and politics faculty in planning and evaluating the government and politics major program. The society, named in honor of a distinguished former U.S. vice president and a native of Utica, serves the intellectual interests of the UC community through the sponsorship of lectures and discussions.
