Utica, NY (06/08/2007) - Calling all teachers! If you are interested in brushing up on your writing, then the Mohawk Valley Writing Project’s 2007 Summer Workshops for Teachers are for you.

Teachers of grades kindergarten through college from all subject areas are invited to take part in the summer writing workshops at Utica College. A total of five workshops will be offered, which will enable teachers to practice and discuss writing.

One workshop, “The Teacher Story: Reading, Making, Using,” will be conducted by Mary Ann Janda, professor of English and director of the Writing Center at UC, and director of MVWP. It runs afternoons from June 25 through June 29. Other workshops will focus on poetry, incorporating writing in the subject areas, and life writing.

A regional affiliate of the National Writing Project, MVWP is a federally funded, professional development program for educators.
The fee for each writing workshop is $80, plus the cost of books for specified workshops. The first workshop will begin on June 25, while the final workshop will begin on August 6. Each workshop is five days long and is 15 contact hours. For more information about MVWP Summer Workshops for Teachers, call Kristin Phelps at (315) 792-3057 or visit www.utica.edu/mvwp for a complete workshop schedule or to download an application. The application deadline for all workshops is June 22.

From June 26 to July 26, MVWP will also conduct its second annual Invitational Summer Institute, a five-week long intensive course for teachers. For information about applying for 2008 Summer Institute, please contact Phelps.
