What is InterLibrary Loan?
InterLibrary Loan (ILL) obtains books and copies of journal articles that are not available in UC Library's print, microform or electronic collection:
- We provide this service, free of charge, to current UC students, faculty and staff
- We borrow these materials from other academic, public and special libraries
- In return, when another library does not own a book or journal, we either loan them our book or provide them with a copy of a requested journal article
Journal Articles
Need an article that UC Library doesn't own in print, microform or online?
- ILL will get you a copy
- Instructions are under How to Use ILL (below)
- Copies of journal articles are yours to keep
Books
Found the perfect book but UC Library doesn't own a copy?
- ILL will borrow the book from another library for you
- Instructions are under How to Use ILL (below)
- Borrowed ILL books are not yours to keep:
- The book belongs to another library
- The due date is written on the ILL Bookmark

How to Renew an ILL Book
Important Information about ILL Book Renewals:
- ILL Books may be renewed one (1) time
- Since UC Library does not own the ILL book, we do not control whether renewal is granted or denied - we just ask the lending library permission to renew
- Not all renewal requests are granted
- If the loaning library grants your renewal request, we'll send you an email with your new due date
- If the loaning library rejects your renewal request, we'll send you an email asking you return the book to UC Library immediately
