Student Affairs Mission Statement
The Student Affairs Division at Utica College manages many of the College's operations which affect students' lives outside the classroom. These include Residence Life, Student Health Services, Career Services, Student Activities and Strebel Student Center, student organizations, student leadership programs, and student discipline. The Student Success Division, New Student and Parent Orientation, Academic Support Services, Higher Education Opportunity Programs, Campus Safety, Campus Dining Services, Bookstore and Athletics also enjoy very close working relationships with the Student Affairs staff.
The Student Affairs offices seek to support the mission of the College, which affirms that "The educational experience of students consists of both academic efforts in the classroom and developmental opportunities through student services and development programs." Because our programs touch students in so many areas of their lives, we see ourselves as being in a unique position to contribute to an environment which fosters intellectual growth and personal development.
Student Affairs promotes the goals of student growth and development by:
- encouraging students in their efforts to engage in positive and realistic self appraisal,
- fostering among students an appreciation for cultural, ethnic, and individual differences,
- facilitating students' transition from high school to college and from college to career or further study,
- helping students develop the capacity for independence, interpersonal communication, and leadership,
- encouraging students to develop a sense of College unity and spirit,
- facilitating communication among students, parents, and the College,
- improving communication for the entire campus community
The Office of Student Affairs achieves this mission by providing advice, counseling and other tangible services to the college community through its offices and programs.
