Student Affairs:

Core Student Development Competencies that we expect our students to learn are:

  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Engagement as learners
  • Responsible citizenship
  • Self awareness
  • Career competency
  • Humanitarianism
  • Connectedness to Utica College

There are specific learning outcomes related to each of these core student development competencies. (One example, for effective interpersonal skills, is the ability to develop and maintain healthy relationships.)

Measurement schemes are also being developed for each of the student learning outcomes; the measurement processes will be implemented in a phased timetable over several years.

The Student Affairs staff also support the academic competencies that are being addressed primarily by the faculty (in such dimensions as critical thinking, logical reasoning, computation, foreign language, appreciation for diverse cultures, speaking, and writing), as teaching of the student competencies in both realms are often shared responsibilities.
