International Student Services - SEVIS Fee

International Student Services - SEVIS Fee

SEVIS Fee Instructions

The Department of Homeland Security requires all international students on F and J visas to pay a fee to support the maintenance of the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), called the I-901 fee.  This fee is required in addition to any visa fee that may also be required.  You will need your I-20 or DS-2019 to pay this fee.

You must pay the I-901 fee before your visa interview and show the receipt to the interviewer during the interview. If you are crossing a land border you must show proof of payment as you go through the port of entry.

Instructions for paying the SEVIS fee:

  • Go to www.fmjfee.com for the latest costs and to pay.
  • Click on "Pay I-901 Fee" at the top of the page.
  • Fill out the personal information on the next page. This page requires your SEVIS Identification Number on your I-20 or DS-2019. This number is on the upper right-hand corner of the document, begins with an N, and has numbers after it.
  • The form requires the “School Code” which is on your I-20 or DS-2019. Each Utica University campus has a different School Code.
  • Check that the information is correct on the next page.
  • Complete the payment information using a credit card. (The Credit Card Form has a place for Cardholder address. You do not need to fill this in. The space is too small for most international addresses.)  If you prefer to use Western Union, a certified check, or a money order, you will have to mail your payment, and your confirmation will be available to print as soon as your payment has been received and processed.  Click here for detailed instructions.
  • Print two copies of the confirmation page (receipt) at the end of the process and take them to the U.S. Embassy for your interview.
