Mya Pope and Dan Kurtz.  Odorant Solubility in the Human Nasal Mucosa.

We are working in collaboration with a researcher at Ohio State to investigate odorant solubility in the human nasal mucosa using an olfactometer and a photoionization detector in conjunction with finite element numerical analysis in a digital mathematical model of the human nose. Currently, we are collecting odorant concentration data to be later analyzed with the finite element numerical analysis. The goal of this work is two fold: to provide basic odorant data for research whose aim is to understand how odorant quality is coded in the central nervous system and to build a perceptual technique to diagnose a conductive olfactory loss.
