Award - Emma LaLonde* (8th grade Donovan Middle School) won third place in her division at the 33rd Annual Utica College Regional Science Fair for her project entitled: "How does light pollution affect reproduction in fruit flies" conducted in collaboration with members of the Utica College Light Pollution Research Group.

Invited Presentation: Dr. Larry Aaronson, Clark Professor of Microbiology presented an invited seminar entitled, "'The Novel Approach': Use of Popular Fiction Novels to Enhance Learning and Integration of Knowledge in Undergraduate Microbiology Courses" to the Microbiology Department at the University of Georgia on February 17, 2011.

2011. Dr. Aaronson has been accepted as a participant in the American Society for Microbiology Biology Scholars Program Transitions Residency in Washington, DC from June 13-15, 2011. The theme of the residency is "From Educational Research to Publication", and is designed to help science faculty prepare manuscripts for publication based on their original research in teaching and learning.

The fellowship provides a Summer stipend and travel funds so that Kayla can present her findings at the 111th General Meeting of the American Society for Microbiology in New Orleans, LA in May 2011.
