Written by: Marissa Filletti '18, PR Intern

Utica College’s Young Scholars Liberty Partnership Program (YSLPP) was recently selected by Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri as the benefitting organization for the 2017 Utica Mayor’s Benefit Gala.

YSLPP, which prides itself on enriching the community by motivating talented and diverse students to achieve college and career readiness, plans to use donated funds from the Gala to offer its students more career enrichment opportunities. In addition to helping students develop educational and social skills, the organization wants to provide its students with practical work experience, internship placements locally that fit their students’ interests and aptitudes.

Each year, YSLPP serves more than 350 students in the Utica City School District. Teachers nominate students in the sixth grade and those who are selected for the program are identified as possessing great potential for success despite the social and economic risk factors that they face.

The Gala will take place from 6 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, April 29 at the Radisson Hotel in downtown Utica.
