MEN'S XC TAKES THIRD PLACE AT E8 CHAMPIONSHIPS; POSTING BEST FINISH IN PROGRAM HISTORY
The Utica College cross country program competed at the Empire 8 Conference Cross Country Championships hosted by RPI Saturday. The men’s team competed very well and placed third overall, out of seven teams, while the women’s squad took seventh place. The men’s finish is the best conference finish in the four year history of the program.

TROY, NY (10/31/09) – The Utica College cross country program competed at the Empire 8 Conference Cross Country Championships hosted by RPI Saturday. The men’s team competed very well and placed third overall, out of seven teams, while the women’s squad took seventh place. The men’s finish is the best conference finish in the four year history of the program.
“When we set goals at the beginning of the year we wanted the men’s team to be able to place third at the conference championships,” says first year Head Coach Jason Rose. “Being a fourth year program I think it is exciting to know that we are able to place in front of four other programs in our conference and things can only continue to grow with the addition of track and field this winter. “
Sophomore Brian Stevens (Holland Patent/Rome, NY) was the top finisher for the men’s squad, taking 19th place in the men’s 8K race with a time of 27:55.83, good for a mile average of 5:37.2. Senior Patrick Day (Whitesboro/Deerfield, NY) placed 25th overall with a time of 28:20.80, while Tim Fitzgerald (Proctor/Utica, NY) followed Day closely with a 26th place finish (28:21.11). Freshman Hunter Padgett (Clinton/Clinton, NY) and senior Robert Fehrman (Paul V. Moore/Central Square) rounded out the top 30 finishers with times of 28:32.66 and 28:37.32, respectively.
In the women’s 5k race freshman Jill Baillargeon (Methuen/Methuen, MA) was the top finisher for the Pioneers with a 36th place finish, crossing the finish line with a time of 20:39.31. Junior Erica Cline (Red Hook/Red Hook, NY) rounded out the top 40 finishers with a time of 20:53.30 and Emilia Hernandez (New Rochelle/New Rochelle) placed 58th with a time of 22:16.50.
UC returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Williamstown, MA to participate in the ECAC Championships.
