Strategic communication, ethics, privacy and more
Utica, NY (06/11/2014)- Patricia Swann, associate professor of public relations and journalism and former dean of the School of Business and Justice Studies at Utica College, has authored the second edition of her book, “Cases in Public Relations Management: the Rise of Social Media and Activism,” published by Routledge, an imprint of Taylor & Francis.
Developed specifically for advanced students in public relations, the book stimulates thoughtful discussion about recent situations faced by organizations. It includes challenges like dealing with animal activist groups, a city trying to change its image, and crisis situations such as the Penn State sex abuse scandal, the Gulf oil spill and the Japanese nuclear meltdown. It highlights strategies and tactics used by public relations practitioners, and also delves into privacy, ethical and management concerns, with outcomes varying from expected to unsuccessful.
The book is used in classrooms throughout the country and internationally, sparking discussion and in-depth analysis about the professional practice of public relations today as strategic relationship builders and communicators.
A member of the Public Relations Society of America, Swann serves as faculty advisor for the Raymond Simon Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America at Utica College. Formerly a professor at SUNY Morrisville, she has won numerous awards for writing, photography and publication design.
