Landon is a 1975 graduate of Utica College with a B.A. in Journalism and a 1985 graduate of Newhouse School of Public Communication at Syracuse University with an M.A. in Newspaper Journalism. Landon has won the college's Distinguished Teaching Award, the Outstanding Faculty award from the Utica College Alumni Association, the Student Life Faculty Award, the Womyn's Resource Center Mentor Award, and the Outstanding Alumna Award from the Raymond Simon Institute.

He continues to teach magazine article writing and recently celebrated his 20th anniversary as a Reader's Digest Fellow, which entitled nearly students more than $20,000 to research and write stories.
