Health Studies - Management
The undergraduate Health Studies - Management program is designed for students who plan to enter the health field in a managerial capacity. Majors include students planning to work in health management or health-related government service, as well as students interested in exploring the areas of health care planning and management in the context of the critical inquiry of the liberal arts.
The program is intentionally multi-disciplinary. Students take a core of management, accounting, finance, and business law courses, along with statistics and business math. Courses in health studies, gerontology, and psychology help deepen an understanding of the physical and psychological needs of patients and clients. Economics courses provide a basis for understanding the effect of economic behavior at the level of the firm. Along with courses in anthropology and social studies, economics also helps develop an awareness of how the U.S. health care system is structured and operates, and of the broader social and cultural context for health and health care delivery.
While ethical inquiry is part of the whole curriculum, there is also a required course in ethics to ensure that students have an opportunity to explore fully the ethical principles involved in health care.
