Berlin-Cracow


March 9 - 18, 2012

Itinerary from 2008 tour:

DAY 1
Fly from Syracuse to Berlin, Delta Airlines, Arrival: 10:00 a.m. on 4 June

DAY 2
Morning: Arrive Berlin; Transfer to Hostel (Aurora Hostel)
Afternoon: Tour of Berlin


DAY 3
Morning: Lecture by Wolfgang Wippermann or Arpad von Klimo
Afternoon: Holocaust Tour (Platform 17, Synagogues, Old Jewish Quarter, Rosenstrasse, Bebelplatz, Topography of Terror, drive by Reichstag)

DAY 4
Morning: Wannsee: House of the Wannsee Conference (by S-Bahn); Half-day program: the aftermath of the Nazi Regime in politics and society since 1945
Afternoon: Free (possibilities include: staying at Wannsee, Jewish Museum, German Historical Museum, West Berlin, etc.)
Evening: Berlin Pub Crawl


DAY 5
Morning: Holocaust Memorial and Information Center (2 and 1/2 hour tour)
Afternoon: Bike Tour (or museum visit, for those who are not interested)

DAY 6
Very Early in the Morning: Travel to Cracow; Transfer to Hotel (Free Hostel)
Evening: Meet with former Utica College faculty in Cracow


DAY 7
Morning: Tour of Cracow (eight hours); Walk around the old city, visit the castle, etc.
Afternoon: Tour Kazimierz, synagogues, cemeteries, etc.
Evening: Yiddish evening (Przemyslaw Piekarski will meet with us and sing Yiddish songs)

DAY 8
Morning: Auschwitz (by bus); Tour of Auschwitz I and museums
Afternoon: Birkenau (tour and time for reflection)

DAY 9
Morning: Schindler’s List Tour
Afternoon: Meeting with survivors and/or righteous gentiles


DAY 10
Morning: Travel to Budapest; Transfer to Hotel (Radio Inn)
Afternoon: Tour of Budapest


DAY 11
Morning: Lecture in Jewish Museum; also visit museum and synagogue.
Afternoon: Free (visit museums, pastry shops, etc.)


DAY 12
Morning: Lecture on Holocaust (Attila Pók)
Afternoon: Holocaust Museum (Perhaps meeting with Roma survivors.)


DAY 13
Morning: Holocaust Tour (walking tour)
Afternoon: Free
Evening: Cultural event (We will wait to see what is available later.)

DAY 14
Entire Day: Free (Turkish baths, etc.)
Evening: Travel by bus back to Berlin


DAY 15
Flight back to Syracuse - Delta: 12 noon.
