Biography
Ellen Smith has been with Utica College Department of Nursing since 2006, teaching distance, clinical, and campus classes in nursing theory, research, history, palliative care and community/public health. Prior to teaching, Ellen lived in Connecticut and worked as a home care and home hospice nurse, supervisor, and case manager. She has also been a school nurse and oncology clinical trials research coordinator. She earned her B.S. from St. Olaf College (Northfield, MN), her Masters of Public Health from the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis), and PhD in Higher Education from Syracuse University. Her research focuses on baccalaureate nursing students' academic success, as well as community health issues and teaching strategies. She lives with her family and in Clinton, NY, and enjoys reading, outdoor activities and water sports.
