The Alpha Sigma Lambda honor society's aim is to recognize the special achievements of adults who accomplish academic excellence while facing competing interests of home and work. Alpha Sigma Lambda is dedicated to the advancement of scholarship and recognizes high scholastic achievement in an adult student's career. By so doing, this Society encourages many students to continue toward and to earn associate and baccalaureate degrees.
The Alpha Omicron Chapter inspires its candidates to give of their strengths to their fellow Utica College students and local learning communities through their academic achievements, and willingness to make a difference in the lives of others. To the newcomer in higher education, Alpha Sigma Lambda stands as an inspiration to scholastic growth and an invitation to associate with similarly motivated students.
To be eligible for membership, a student must:
- Be an undergraduate in one of our online programs
- Have no previous baccalaureate degree
- Complete at least 24 credit hours at UC half of those being in Liberal Arts and Sciences
- Attain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.2.
Q: Is there any cost to me?
A: There is no annual cost to be a member
Q: Is there anything that I need to do once I'm inducted?
A: There is nothing that the student needs to do. There are a few chapters that have officers and hold meetings and inductees can attend those meetings. Utica College is interested in expanding the Alpha Omicron chapter - if you are interested in being an officer, please contact the School of Online and Extended Studies (information below).
Q: Why ASL?
A: ASL is the only national honor society that is dedicated to non-traditional, part-time, adult learners. It is Utica College's way of recognizing extraordinary achievements of this student population. It is also something for you to be proud of and adds your resume.
Q: Can I get more information on ASL?
A: You can go to the ASL website at alphasigmalambda.org, Facebook, Twitter, and an ASL group on LinkedIn. The Alpha Omicron chapter at UC also has a LinkedIn site - HIGHLY suggested that you join (if you are an ASL AO member).
