Colleagues, friends, students to remember late professor?s life and his passionsUtica, NY (05/03/2004) - Utica College will host a memorial service for the late Wayne Palmer, associate professor emeritus of mathematics, on Thursday, May 6 at 2 p.m. in the concourse level of the Frank E. Gannett Memorial Library. Colleagues, friends and students will share remembrances of Palmer, who was a staple of the campus community until his passing on Feb. 20.
Palmer was well known to many generations of UC students and faculty. He retired in 1995 after 32 years of teaching, but remained dedicated to the mission of the college. He was active on campus, visiting on a near-daily basis, and providing support and mentoring to students and faculty. In 1988, he established the Mary Sophia Tyler Palmer Scholarship Fund in honor of his grandmother. The scholarship was funded by deposit monies from returned bottles and cans that Palmer collected on campus. In addition to his excellence in teaching, dedication to students and colleagues, and support for the institution, Palmer will be remembered for his many passions and pastimes, including coin collecting, crossword puzzles, bridge, and bird-watching.
In addition to the public memorial service, Utica College is accepting donations in Palmer’s memory to the Mary Sophia Tyler Palmer Scholarship Fund. For more information, contact the Office of Development at (315) 792-3330.
