This August, all incoming first-year students will come together to participate in the third annual Pioneer Pitch-In. Check out the details on this exciting event and visit our webpage for more information.
What is Pioneer Pitch-In?
Pioneer Pitch-In is a community service experience that first-year students and interested transfer students will participate in during Orientation. You and a team of your peers will be shuttled to one of many local non-profit sites where you’ll learn about the organization, participate in fun activities, and work on a project to create positive change in the community. Pioneer Pitch-In will be an amazing opportunity to check out Utica and the surrounding neighborhoods, meet new friends, and make a difference!
What will the volunteer experience look like?
On Wednesday, August 23rd, students will participate in a Pre-Pioneer Pitch-In Meeting with a team of mentors who will help the group become acquainted with each other and learn about the project they’ll be working on.
On Thursday, August 24th, you and your group will board a bus and head out into the community to your designated location. When you return to campus in the afternoon, you’ll come back to a party! Food trucks, games, inflatables, and more will be waiting for you to celebrate your accomplishments.
How can you prepare?
Some of the projects may involve tasks like landscaping, cleaning or painting, so be sure to bring old clothes and comfortable shoes. All students will receive a Pioneer Pitch-In t-shirt to wear on the day of the project as well as any other needed supplies.
Be sure to fill out the Orientation Registration form (part of the First Year Student Survey) - it provides us with important information like your t-shirt size and any needed physical and/or dietary accommodations.
