Utica, NY (09/20/2005) - "Keeper of the Kohn," an award-winning documentary, will be shown at Utica College on Monday, Oct. 3. The presentation of this film – and the campus visit by the film’s subject, Peter Kohn, and director, David Gaynes - is being cosponsored by Utica College, The Arc, Oneida-Lewis Chapter, and The Learning Disability Association of the Mohawk Valley. This poignant film chronicles a crossroad in the life of Peter Kohn, a 70-year-old collegiate lacrosse field manager who is believed to have a mild form of autism. The film follows Kohn through his last season at Middlebury College, exploring the depths of friendship and its ability to help one face life’s difficulties. Sometimes described as one part “Rain Man” and one part "Rudy," it documents Peter's relationships with his beloved friends and the inspiration he provides to his student athletes.
There will be two showings of the one-hour documentary on Oct. 3, at 3:30 and 7 p.m. in Donahue Auditorium, in the Gordon Science Center at Utica College. The public is welcome and a $5 donation is suggested. Both Kohn and Gaynes will attend the screenings and be available for questions from the audience.
“Keeper of the Kohn” won the Jury Award for Best Documentary at the Vail International Film Festival and the Audience Award for Best Documentary at Palm Beach International Film Festival.
The title of the movie, "Keeper of the Kohn," refers to a responsibility given to one of the players on the team each season - to watch out for Peter. This informal duty always becomes an honor for the keeper and leads to compassionate relationships between Peter and his teammates.
